Oh! I just realised that you guys don’t know who we are, sorry about that. The abnormal mass of perverted testosterone is called Ren Nightcrawler. Good looking guy (but don’t tell him that, cause everyone else already does!), perfect at everything and likely to be the only person in the world who could effortlessly become a Supreme Overlord, lives next door and happens to be my babyhood friend (emphasis on “babyhood”, we met when we both took our first breath of life). I, on the other hand, am the living embodiment of a unicorn with a magical name to suit. Nyx Nightingale. Nice to meet you! As I mentioned earlier, today is our first day of high school. Adnromdea Beech High eagerly opens its doors to all unsuspecting adolescents who are struggling to find a potent enough deodorant to effectively battle body odour. You’ll meet the “it girls”, the “it guys”, find your place in the hierarchy and hear whose pants everyone is trying to get into (don’t look at me like that, you know it’s true). So, while I try to find my happy place again, I only have thirty minutes to do so before it’s time to step out into the big, bad world of high school.
Sleep. One of life’s most taken-for-granted treasures. An escape into worlds unknown, lives parallel to your own, and cryptic messages from the divine. Sleep is a necessary time for a blooming adolescent’s healthy development, and should not be disturbed under any circumstances. Not from WWE wrestling, not from a desperate desire to body touch, and definitely not from a guy who thinks he's all that!. Unfortunately, this morning invited all of those things. Nothing but pure, utter destruction! Exposed from head to toe in newly forming bruises and hobbling towards the cold confines of the bathroom, where absolutely everything has disturbed my short-lived journey into dreamland.

“He never should have turned to the Dark Side!”
“But they have cookies.”
I dig my nails deeper into his wrists, the satisfaction that I get at seeing him squirm never gets old (seriously, guys…get your heads out of the gutter!).
“Choose wisely. Where should I dig my nails into next?”
He gulps! Hell hath no fury like a woman disturbed from her sleep. To prove my point even further, my nails are dangerously close to drawing blood. Not pricks of blood, buckets of it.
“Ouch! Okay, okay! I’m going. You’re such a bully.”
“I’m the bully!”
Whack. Whack. Whack!
That once soft pillow turns as hard as rock as I bash Ren’s puberty-induced body with it, over and over again. He’s out the door faster than when he came in.
“I want Weetbix with lots of sugar on it, for breakfast!”
As my powers return to dormancy, the allure of sleep evades me. You truly don’t appreciate something until it’s gone.

The superpower awakening that I have been yearning for finally arrives in my most desperate hour of need. If there is something that I have reluctantly learned over the years, it is that this Birdie needs to make sure that her talons are kept long and sharp.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!”
And just like that, Nala has pinned Simba to the ground! Unfortunately, this guy gets the mercy of being pinned against the soft surface of my bed (get your heads out of the gutter!).
“You know better than to disturb my therapy sessions with Anakin Skywalker. We are making progress!”

Snuggled from head to toe in a blanket that’s just right and resting upon a pillow softer than the clouds (I’m aware that’s an overused description, but it works okay!), where absolutely nothing could disturb my well-deserved journey into dreamland. Absolutely nothing at all.

How he’s here before eight thirty leaves me painfully discombobulated, but not as much as his heaping body mass that flies across the room and body slams me like a WWE wrestler.
